biking Bike share is a network of thousands of attractive, sturdy bicycles available at self-service docking stations around the city. Bike share is best for quick urban trips. Users check out a bike using a membership or credit card, ride to a docking station near their destination and return the bike.
Bike Share in NYC will be run by Alta Bicycle Share and funded by private sponsorship and user fees, not taxpayer dollars. Bike Share membership will be inexpensive (less than one monthly MetroCard), and bikes will be available 24/7, every day. The system will consist of 10,000 bikes, distributed at over 600 self-service, solar powered stations.
Alta Bicycle Share will run, manage and maintain the bike share system, while NYC DOT will coordinate community outreach and regulate station siting.
Bike share will put the city on your schedule and makes getting from point A to point B just a little easier.
